Upgrades - Features

Over the last few weeks we’ve been pushing out a bunch of small updates. Some of the highlights include:

Moving the thumbnail picker to the edit episode page, so it’s easier find. Made uploading really large videos more reliable. Made purchasing more reliable. Added the weeks top videos to every channel, so users can see at a glance what’s popular. And a bunch of other stuff.

Feel free to send in suggestions, questions or bugs to support@wowtv.tv.

Takeover TV - WOW TV

Takeover TV: Adam Buxton

See more at WOW! Surreality.

Before youtube, before myspace, there was Takeover TV, the first user generated TV program. In this edition, the host for this episode is none other than Adam Buxton of Adam and Joe fame. See what crazy clips were submitted to this groundbreaking series.

Captive Audience: Lucid Dreaming - Etc

Captive Audience – Lucid Dreaming: A Documentary

See more at Captive Audience.

Check out Captive Audience’s Lucid Dreaming. In this clip, the “light sleeper” decides to try his hand at lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is apparently “dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming.”

Gary Glaser - Jesus Rises - WOW TV

Gary Glaser – Jesus Rises

See more at garyglaser.

This is some crazy Sh*t! We all know about Jesus being resurrected (well some of us do), but in Jesus Rises, what if the only reason he got up out of the 2,000 year old coffin that James Cameron found was because (wait for it)...Jesus was a Zombie? Check it out and see for yourself.

She's Crafty - Homemade - WOW TV

She’s Crafty – Homemade

See more at She’s Crafty.

In this episode of She’s Crafty, Mary Anne shows you a quick and easy way to make homemade twinkies. I’m hungry, but I guess I’m going to have to opt for the original store bought kind.

Behind the Interview - Press

Camp, Kansas City’s Voice for the LGBT communities has an article on Jack E. Jett where he mentions his FUTV channel on WOW TV.

My favorite quote is in answer to the the question: Why did you launch your new channel on WorldofWonder.net?

I think that everyone involved at World of Wonder are about ten years ahead of their time, and even though some of them look it – kidding! – they are on the cusp of cool. Also, when I recently lost my testicles in a freak sex accident, both Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey (founders of World of Wonder and also the producing team behind One Punk Under God) donated one each, in order to make my scrotum more complete.

Picking a custom thumbnail - FAQ, Tips

If you don’t like the default still that WOW TV picks for your video, you can change it.

Any jpg image will work, though it’s best if you use one with the same dimensions as the video, 320×240 as one example.

To change the still, click on the “Edit this video” link on the episode details page. In the edit page, click on the Version name of the video you want to add the still for (you can do it for each version).

On the right side there’s the Stills section. You’ll see the currently set thumbnail and a form. Click the browse button and navigate to the jpg on your computer. Click Open. Click Upload.

Your new thumbnail will upload and replace the old one.

If you want to go back to the WOW TV generated thumbnail, just click the Create Stills link.

Performance issues - Etc

Perez linked to the Madonna clip yesterday afternoon and is sending a ton of traffic our way. So much so that for most of last night the site seemed to stop responding. It was never down, but it would take a very long time to load. We’re still seeing a lot of traffic, so performance is not what it normally is. Things should return to normal this afternoon.

We’re working fast to add infrastructure so we don’t have these performance issues in the future. Thanks for your patience.

Channel Names - Tips

Now that each channel gets it’s own sub-domain, I thought I would let everyone know a simple tip. Say you want your channel to be called “some super long channel name”, if you do that, your domain will be http://some-super-long-channel-name.wowtv.tv

It’s a little long and not very friendly. To get a shorter domain all you have to do is simply create your channel using a temporary name that works for the URL. For example, you could use tom, which would become http://tom.wowtv.tv

Then, after you save your channel, simply rename it to “some super long channel name” and your domain will remain the same.

Of course this only works when you first create your channel, once the domain is set, it can’t be changed.

What size should my logo be? - FAQ

To make sure your logo look the best you should make it 400px wide by 100px high.

If you upload a logo larger then that, it will be resized to fit.

What media player do I need to watch WOW TV? - FAQ

Every video on WOW TV is a Quicktime file, but each user can choose what Quicktime compatible format they use. Some may choose MP4, others (like WOW) H.264.

To ensure you can watch everything it's best to have the latest version of Quicktime installed. Currently that's version 7.

What media formats does WOW TV support? - FAQ

Any compatible format such as H.264 or MP4.
